Baltimore Teachers Union endorses Ashley Esposito & Salimah Jasani!

The BTU Committee On Political Education (COPE) engaged in a thorough endorsement process that included questionnaires, interviews, shadow days, and rank and file polling. At every step of the process, Salimah Jasani and Ashley Esposito scored at the top of the pack despite a highly qualified field, culminating in unanimous COPE Committee and Executive Board votes.

Ashley Esposito is the recipient of a City-wide award for her community engagement work in the neighborhood of Violetville in Southwest Baltimore. She is a tireless advocate for a community-centered and trauma-informed approach to education. A former foster care youth who relied on the wrap-around services of her public school, Ashley vows to bring “big mama” energy to the board.

Salimah Jasani is a former Baltimore City Public Schools special education teacher and BTU member, community organizer, and disability and education policy expert. She has worked in solidarity with BTU members in our AROS and VOTES coalitions before she ever decided to run for the school board and has the rare combination of on the ground knowledge together with fluency in education research.
